Temporary Guardianship

A temporary guardianship is a short-term appointment intended to address an immediate need while a general guardianship petition is pending. It may be requested when urgent authority is necessary to protect the child, arrange medical care, address education, prevent removal from a stable placement, or respond to another immediate concern.

A temporary guardianship is not automatically granted merely because a general guardianship petition has been filed. The petitioner must explain why immediate court intervention is necessary.
